Food & Commercial Workers Exposed

Information Food & Commercial Workers organizers hope your employees don't see before your upcoming union election.

  • Is your company facing a Food & Commercial Worker election that threatens to drive a wedge between you and your employees?
  • Are your employees only getting one side of the story from a paid organizer or deluded Food & Commercial Worker supporters?
  • Have your employees fallen for the "too good to be true" promises of a union organizer?
  • Do you wish there was a way to quickly and easily get THE FACTS into the hands of your employees - before it is too late?

Like any good salesman, the Food & Commercial Workers organizer is trained to tell your employees exactly what they want to hear. They exaggerate the benefits of the Food & Commercial Workers while avoiding or even covering up the problems. The organizer knows that most employees - when given a chance to see the facts - will not vote to be represented by a union.

How will your employees find out the truth? Here are THE FACTS your employees need to see TODAY. Before it is too late.

Food & Commercial Workers
The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) broke away from the AFL-CIO in July 2005 to join the new Change To Win labor coalition. In 2004, UFCW leaders led 60,000 members in a disastrous strike against southern California grocery chains. UFCW members collectively lost 4.58 million days of work, with terrible consequences for workers. "Organizing is war," according to longtime UFCW leader Joe Crump, and that means harassing nonunion employers and "costing them enough time and energy and money to either eliminate them or get them to surrender to the union." The union practices a slash-and-burn theory, evident in their political-style PR offensive against Wal-Mart. "If we can't organize [nonunion supermarkets]," says Tom McNutt, president of Local 400 of the UFCW, "the best thing to do is to erode their business as much as possible."

• The International union headquarters paid former president Doug Dority more than $700,000 in salary and benefits.

• In late 2005, the former assistant to the president of UFCW International, Joseph DiFlumera, was sentenced for mail fraud, racketeering, and extorting more than $1.5 million from a grocery chain.

• Former UFCW International secretary-treasurer Joseph Talarico pled guilty to his role in embezzling $2 million from Local 1. In related indictments for defrauding UFCW, his son was sentenced to a year in prison and ordered to repay $81,000 in embezzled funds; his daughter was sentenced to a year of probation and ordered to repay $26,000; and his brother pled guilty to embezzling $650,000 from the union.
